METRC API Bulletin 123 - All Programs: Accepted Characters

Dear METRC Flourish Users,

We have an important update for our METRC clients regarding a regulatory change that will take effect on March 11, 2024.

Starting March 11, 2024, METRC limits the characters you can use to create objects on their API. Flourish will adhere to these changes by limiting the characters you can use across the application. Please read below for more details.

METRC Character Limits

METRC has altered the list of acceptable characters you can use when creating:

  • Items
  • Strains
  • Packages
  • Plants

These common characters that are not supported:

  1. '
  2. "

In Flourish Software, this change will impact the following fields:

  • Item Names
  • Strain Names
  • Locations
  • Harvest Names
  • Plant Batches
  • Lot Numbers
  • Manufacturing Run Names
  • Manufacturing Run Types
  • Drivers
  • Vehicles
  • Package Adjustment Comments
  • Plant and Plant Batch Destroy Notes
Approved Characters

Moving forward, you may only use the following characters in Flourish in the text fields that are synced with METRC:

  • All lowercase letters: a-z
  • All uppercase letters: A-Z
  • Numbers: 0-9
  • These Special Characters:
    • .?!@#$%^&*()[]/\|>+-_:
If you include any characters not mentioned above, then you will receive a system error message notifying you of the mistake. Flourish will then allow you to edit the text before trying to save the action again.
