Automatically calculate the "Use By Date" for new packages.

Updated by NIr Malchy

The Use by date is one package attribute you can set to inherit from the source packages.

You can also set Flourish to auto-calculate the Use by date by configuring the Item in the Item master.

Configure the Item to require the Use by date and a number of Shelf Days, and Flourish will auto-populate the Use by date based on the date you set while creating new packages of that Item.

Inherit from the source packages supersedes the Use by date calculation below.

Configure the Item

Configure the Use by date and the Shelf Days for an item:

  1. Go to Settings / Inventory and locate the Item.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Locate the Rules section below, set the fields, and don't forget to your changes.

Use by date calculation

Use by date = Created Date/Time + Shelf Days.
  • When you create a new package, you set the Created Date/Time for this package on the Confirm new package screen (below).
  • When you configure the item as above, Flourish calculates the Use by date by adding the Shelf Days to the Created Date/Time for this package.

Calculate vs. Inherit

What if you set your item to calculate the Use by date and set the system to Inherit the use by date from the source packages?

Inherit from the source packages supersedes the Use by date calculation.

How does it work?

If you set the system to Inherit the use by date from the source packages, Flourish will set the Use by date of the new package according to the source package.

If the Use by date of the source packages is empty, or the source packages do not share the same Use by date, Flourish will fall back to the rules configured on the Item, if any, to calculate the appropriate date for the new package.
